Kidney Stones

What Causes Kidney Stones?

Dehydration, diet, metabolic factors, and medical conditions can all contribute to stone formation.

By Prof. Dr. Asif Baloch · 2026-03-25 · 5 min read

Kidney stones form when minerals in urine crystallize and aggregate. Low fluid intake, high salt diets, certain animal-protein patterns, obesity, family history, and some metabolic disorders increase risk.

After an acute episode, a urologist may recommend stone analysis and metabolic workup to guide prevention — particularly after recurrent stones.
